Nanny Defined.

Throughout my extensive experience, I've discovered the importance of maintaining effective communication between parents and the nanny. A good nanny acts as an extension of both the mother and father, which necessitates a mutual understanding between parents and the nanny to ensure everyone is aligned, allowing the child to witness respect and experience a unified environment. If the family's values and priorities do not align with those of the nanny, and vice versa, the environment becomes fragmented and unsustainable, potentially leading the child to misbehave due to a lack of respect. A nanny should be trusted to represent the parents in their absence, capable of implementing reasonable consequences for misbehavior and teaching children basic manners and expectations, such as saying please and thank you, putting away shoes indoors, placing dishes in the sink, and putting dirty clothes in the hamper, to name a few examples.
In conclusion, while a nanny can be highly adaptable, a lack of shared fundamental values can significantly impact communication. This inconsistency will be noticeable to your child and may ultimately hinder the nanny's effectiveness, creating a more problematic environment.
